Can't Stop Collecting 2007 Bowman Heritage

In my continued quest to wrap up my 2007 Bowman Heritage set, (which is only a couple cards away, by the way, so help me out, if you have a way) I keep acquiring cards I don't really need from the hits of this set.

What's weird about the GUs is the middle names on the front of the card. Well, that and Swish's obscenely long locks and too perfectly groomed soul patch.

An auto of some guy I've never heard of. Is he still playing? A free agent, it seems, after a year in the minors for Boston. Maloney's chances are looking a little baloney. What I want to know is what's up with those dudes in the red back there.

Now this guy I remember rooting for. You have to love catchers, but Towles might be all fizzled out at this point, stuck in the minors. So much for this Sign of the Future.

And now we're back to another guy I've never heard of. Chorye Spoone has a cool name and a unique signature. Was the dot at the end really necessary, I wonder.

Even if they're a bunch of nobodies, this auto insert set is so well designed, like everything in 2007 BH. On card autos always rock. I'll pick them up wherever I see them when they only cost me a buck or so, as these did.

Happy Birthday Steve Garvey, You're Not Special

It just so happens to be some special guy's birthday.

Here's the last hit of his I haven't traded away, a pretty sweet card, which I probably will trade away at some point. But for now, this will serve as the image for my garvey cey russel lopes contest entry. Jim has orchestrated a blogosphere-wide symphony of birthday greetings.

In honor of Garvey's recent Hall of Fame snub, and this day, here's a fitting song for him in under one minute:

Freehan without a Plan

Do I need a reason to post a great Tigers autograph card and say almost nothing about it?

Nope.

Almost nothing: this set me back under $3 shipped on eBay.

Do I deeply desire to crack this from its uncirculated plastic tomb? Indeed.

Vintage Pulls Me Back In: Can You Spare a '52 Kell?

I've been away from the blog for nearly a month and a half. I've never been a super frequent blogger, but slow and steady. This is the longest hiatus I've taken.

The Tigers blew it. I got sad. Leyland left. I felt complicated. We won some awards. I got happy again. But the blogging void has more to do with new-baby-bliss and being very busy with my new teaching job.

Anyway, I'm not saying I'm back to regular, but here's something that also makes me excited to talk about cards: vintage.

This 1951 Bowman gets me one card closer to my vintage Bowman Tigers team sets. A great looking card that came PWE-style from 2 by 3 Heroes. Hey, anyone got a 1952 Bowman George Kell? If so, I got an arm and a leg for you.

I have the least amount of cards from this Bowman set, which I'm not a huge fan of. Hey, oversized pictures! Whew. Meh. I prefer undersized art cards for my vintage. But, this is a Tigers card, Ned Garver, so of course I needed it. This one came in a trade from The Lost Collector.

Oh, and this one was the most exciting of all. My doppelganger trade partner Dennis at Too Many Verlanders sent this beauty. And with this card, I'm now just one card away from finishing my Tigers team set of 1952 Bowman--my favorite vintage set!! So, what's the one card I need? Remember that arm and leg? That's right. Need me a '52 Kell.

Thanks for the great trades, fellas. Hope to chat with you again soon, blogger boys and gals.

Tigers Win! The Stars Revived

Game 4 was a nail-biter. Game 5 was a little smoother. Once this guy sent one over the fence.

And what a beautiful thing it was to see Miggy doing what Miggy does. He's still hurt, but perhaps we're seeing an upswing. Speaking of a beautiful things, this snazzy card comes from a trade with Mr. Baseball Scott.

But it wasn't just Miggy having a comeback.

Verlander's game was a masterpiece. Let's take a moment to humbly reflect with Justin.

Ohm.

Done?

So are all the doubters finished asking what happened to Verlander, as if he's been a junk pitcher all season. He had what would be a career year for most pitchers, and now he's pitching at an unbelievable level again. Let's take this right on over to Boston!
